Drywall Texture Matching in Bend, OR
Same wall. Same texture.
Orange peel, knockdown, skip trowel and smooth walls.
New texture sized and blended so the repair reads like the wall around it.
Texture Matching
How we go about it.
A patch can sit dead flat and still show. The texture gives it away.
Knowing the name is not enough. One orange peel is not the next.
A match is about size and density. How big the splatter is, how close it lands.
Mud thickness, spray tip, air pressure and distance each change the pattern.
The mix is tried on a scrap board first, and adjusted until it reads like your wall.
New texture is blended past the patch edges, so there is no hard line.
The match is judged in the room. Raking light from a window shows every edge.
What is included
The scope, spelled out.
Texture over a new patch
The repair is floated flat, then given the pattern the wall already carries.
Old patches that show
A bald spot or the wrong pattern from an earlier repair, retextured to blend.
Ceiling texture
Window light runs flat across a ceiling, so the blend goes wider.
Texture under old paint
Paint leaves texture softer and rounder. New texture is made to match.
Smooth wall repairs
No pattern to hide in. The mud is floated much wider.
Whole-wall retexture
Sometimes the clean answer is corner to corner. A corner hides the change.
Our work
Worth knowing
Which texture is on your wall?
Most textured walls fall into a few families.
Round dots are orange peel. Flat islands are knockdown. Sweeping arcs were put on by hand.
One name covers many looks. Fine or heavy, tight or open, sharp or rounded by paint.
You do not need to know the name. A photo in side light shows Danny the pattern.
Take one close photo and one from a few steps back.
Quick reference
- Orange peel
- Thin mud sprayed as a fine splatter and left as it lands.
- Knockdown
- Splatter left to set, then flattened with a wide knife.
- Skip and hand trowel
- Mud dragged on by hand. No two hands leave the same marks.
- Smooth
- No texture. The patch is skimmed out wide and sanded flat.

Danny reads the pattern

Test, then texture
The mix is tried on scrap board, then sprayed or troweled and blended past the repair.
Checked in your light
The match is looked at in the room. It is left ready for primer and paint.

Often done with
Can you match a texture someone else put on?
Yes. The pattern is read off the wall, tried on a scrap board and adjusted until it blends.
Why does my old patch still show through paint?
Often the texture is the wrong size, or it was painted without primer.
Unprimed texture flashes, drying duller or shinier than the wall.
What if I do not know what my texture is called?
You do not need to. Send a close photo, or call (503) 991-3165 and describe what you see.
Is a perfect match always possible?
Not on every wall. Sprayed textures blend more easily than hand-troweled or smooth walls.
Sometimes retexturing corner to corner is the cleaner fix.
